GETTING IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!
WHY AN ECS JAPANESE KNOTWEED MANAGEMENT PLAN IS CRUCIAL.
Increasingly because of the current difficult financial economical climate land owners have initially elected to opt for the cheapest solution, often attempting DIY treatments to control/eradicate their Japanese Knotweed.
Only to despair later on that the so called “cheaper solution” has in fact magnified their Japanese knotweed problem to huge proportions.
This inevitably leads to spiralling remediation costs for which there is usually no allocated budget.
As you will see from the case history shown below the consequences and financial repercussions of mistreating Japanese Knotweed should never be underestimated:
CASE HISTORY:
New development project in South East London - Japanese Knotweed stand measuring 110 meters long by 4 meters wide
ISSUES:
• After 6 years the site was still contaminated with Japanese knotweed - Despite being treated by a National landscape contractor.
• The size of the infestation had increased by 34% - incorrect handling and working procedures had resulted in numerous additional infestations throughout the site.
• Incorrect spraying methods - had rendered the Japanese Knotweed incapable of absorbing all but a minimum amount of any treatment solution.
• Development timescale – construction was due to commence on site but the presence of Japanese Knotweed made this impossible. At this late stage the instant solution of mechanical removal was now the only viable option available.
OUTCOME:
ECS were appointed to resolve the Japanese Knotweed problem. Using our broad scope of knowledge we were able to successfully eradicate all of the Japanese Knotweed.
Whilst we were able to significantly reduce the additional remediation expenditure to the client, the cost was never the less considerable.
